Blue Mountain College signs first two baseball players

BLUE MOUNTAIN – Seth Kennedy and Zane Treadaway made a little Northeast Mississippi baseball history Friday when they became the first two players to sign grants-in-aid with the Blue Mountain College Toppers.

The Toppers, who will begin play in 2010-2011 in the NAIA TranSouth Athletic Conference, turned to Kennedy, an outfielder and designated hitter from Tishomingo County High, and Treadaway, a left-handed pitcher from East Union, to jumpstart their program.

“Both Seth and Zane are outstanding players and young men, and we’re excited to have them as Blue Mountain’s first two signees,” Toppers coach Curt Fowler said. “Our program is getting off to a strong start with players like these coming on board.”

Both Kennedy and Treadaway are members of the Northeast Mississippi Community College program.

Kennedy hit .373 for the Tigers in 2009 with 3 homers, 14 doubles and 30 RBI. Treadaway was 2-1 at Northeast last year with a 3.22 ERA. He pitched 22.1 innings and recorded 16 strikeouts and 8 walks.

Each has another year at Northeast before joining BMC in the fall of 2010.
