BLUE MOUNTAIN – Jessi Hayles scored a career-high 35 points Thursday night to lead Blue Mountain College to an 88-79 victory over Martin Methodist College. The win snapped a 12-game losing streak for the Lady Toppers.
Hayles, a junior from South Pontotoc, was good on 10 of 15 three-point attempts and 5 of 6 free throws. Chelsea Hussey (Mooreville) also had 10 points for BMC.
The Lady Toppers (4-20 overall, 1-12 in the TranSouth Athletic Conference), jumped out to a 50-36 halftime lead only to see Martin cut it to 68-66 with 6:49 left. Blue Mountain responded with 11 unanswered points – including two three-pointers from Hayles – and cruised to the win.
The Lady Hawks outrebounded the Lady Toppers, 57-37, but Blue Mountain was dominant from long distance. The Lady Toppers connected on 41.7 percent (15 of 36) of their three-pointers while Martin hit only 2 of 13.
Martin (17-10, 6-9) got 21 points from Vee Young and 16 from Micah Anderson.
