Blue Mountain College shortstop Whitney Hardwick has been named the TranSouth Athletic Conference softball player of the week for her performance through the week ending March 24.
Hardwick, a 5-foot-6 sophomore from Glen, Miss., and Alcorn Central High School, was instrumental in leading the Lady Toppers to three wins in four games last week, with 8 hits in 12 plate appearances, a .667 batting average.
Four of the Hardwick’s eight hits went for extra bases – two doubles, a triple and a home run in the Toppers’ doubleheader sweep of Hillsdale Baptist College. In a twin bill split at Lyon College, she had three singles and scored two runs.
On the week, Hardwick finished with six runs batted in – including four in the win over Hillsdale – and scored five runs. She finished the week with a slugging percentage of 1.250, a .733 on base percentage and a .917 fielding percentage.
