JACKSON, Tenn. – Blue Mountain College knocked off Bethel University 11-4 here in the second round of the TranSouth Athletic Conference Championships.
The No. 6 Toppers, now 24-29, pounded five Wildcats pitchers for 19 hits and eliminated No. 4 Bethel, 31-22, from the tournament.
Channing Walker (Tupelo) led BMC with four hits, Ben Wallis (Ripley) had three hits and drove in three runs, Seth Kennedy (Iuka) had three hits and two RBI, Gardner Richey (Tupelo) had three hits and drove in a run, and Dalton Kulas (Olive Branch) and Zack Scott (Shannon) each had two hits and an RBI.
Blake Jolly (South Pontotoc), 6-8, went the distance for the Toppers and allowed only five hits while striking out five and walking four.
The Toppers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles by Kennedy, Wallis, Walker, and Cody Roberts (Pontotoc); and Richey scored on a double-steal with Wallis.
BMC took a 10-3 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring triple by Kennedy, RBI doubles by Richey and Scott and run-scoring singles by Wallis and Dalton Kulas. Wallis drove in Hunter Mize (Lafayette) in the seventh for the Toppers’’ final run.
BMC will play the winner of the Union-Martin Methodist game at noon today.
