AMORY – In a battle of county rivals, Thursday night’s slow-pitch softball game between Amory and Smithville turned into a marathon. Amory grabbed a 5-4 win in 18 innings with a walkoff single from Josie Booth.
“It’s hard to hit under pressure,” Booth said after the game winner. “But we fought hard and wanted it bad. We’re tired, but it was worth it.”
Amory scored all four of its earlier runs in the third inning, and Smithville tied it up with an RBI single from Breanna Edgeworth in the top of the seventh.
Amory’s Savannah Nelson and Smithville’s Ashtyn Hensley each pitched all 18 innings.
For the Lady Panthers, Bailey Oswalt, Bailey Boyd and Aynslee Willis each finished with three hits, while Edgeworth, Lane Kennedy and Angel Guyton had a trio of hits for Smithville.
