Tupelo Christian won’t field football team in 2013

Belden, Mississippi – August 13, 2013 — School officials announced Tuesday, August 13, 2013, that Tupelo Christian Preparatory School, due to unforeseen circumstances, does not have the ability to field a varsity football team this Fall.

“We simply are not comfortable with the potential safety risk resulting from being unable to adequately field a varsity level team,” said headmaster Brian Benscoter.

TCPS is in the process of notifying the MHSAA and their opponents. The junior high program will continue as planned with their full schedule as TCPS continues developing the football program for the future.

“In a full-fledged effott to sustain our program we prepared all through summer workouts and have practiced up to this very day. I applaud coach Shaune Holiday and his efforts in building this program. We have-complete confidence in his leadership as he continues to grow young men,” said athletic director Aubrey Boren said.

That’s too bad. I know that’s a terrible disappointment for players, staff and fans. Hope they can somehow work it out. May God bless.

Players should be able to try and to get on THS team for this year.. Its not there fault this has happen.. Them missing out on a year playing ball is just not fair too the kids. Wonder if there is any thing in the MHSAA laws that could allow them to try out for THS team or maybe one of Lee County schools of there choose.. If they really want to play this year..

The activities association won’t approve a transfer–especially if those kids wanted to play sports at THS for this school year. A local news report says TCPS would’ve fielded at team with only 19 players this season.
