Mississippi State will be another man down in the SEC Tournament this weekend.
Freshman post player Wendell Lewis is out after breaking a bone in his right foot. It will require surgery, a team spokesman said Thursday night.
The foot had been bothering Lewis for a while, and an X-ray revealed the break.
The 6-foot-8 Lewis was averaging 1.5 points and 1.5 rebounds per game and was one of the few options MSU had in the post outside its starters. He played in 23 games, including eight SEC contests.
MSU has been without several players expected to contribute this season. Backup point guard Twany Beckham had two hip surgeries in the offseason; post player Elgin Bailey was shut down early with an ankle injury; and promising freshman Shaun Smith will redshirt due to hip and wrist injuries.
