STARKVILLE – Mississippi State freshman shortstop Erin Nesbit has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week for her stellar efforts in a doubleheader sweep of Auburn on Wednesday.
Nesbit batted .600 (3 for 5) and hit the game-winning home runs in both games as MSU swept the regular-season series from Auburn for the first time since 2001. The pair of wins improved State to 26-24 overall and 7-15 in SEC play.
“Erin is very deserving of this honor after hitting the game-winning home run in both games against Auburn,” Mississippi State head coach Jay Miller said. “We are very proud of Erin for receiving this award. We hope Wednesday’s two wins at Auburn are the beginning of a strong finish both for her and our ballclub.”
