Bulldogs, Rebels ousted from SEC men’s tennis tourney

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The SEC men’s tennis tournament runs for both Mississippi State and Ole Miss came to an end on Friday.
Second-seeded Mississippi State, the SEC Western Division champion, lost 4-2 to host Florida, the No. 4 seed. It’s the second year in a row the Gators have knocked the Bulldogs out of the tournament.
In the nightcap, top-seeded Tennessee battled to a 4-1 win over eighth-seeded Ole Miss.
Nassim Slilam beat James Chaudry 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to clinch it for the Gators.
MSU’s winners were Artem Ilyushin at No. 1 and Malte Stropp at No. 4.
Tennessee’s Matteo Fago clinched his team’s match at No. 5 singles with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-0 win over Johan Backstrom. The Rebels’ Tucker Vorster won at No. 2 singles.
Kentucky and Georgia meet in the first semifinal today at 10 a.m., followed by Florida and UT.
