Bulldogs, Rebels win with late scores

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State opened its Diamond Classic weekend on Friday night with a 4-2 victory over Michigan State.

The Bulldogs (7-4) scored four runs in the eighth to win it for Ross Mitchell, who pitched 6 2/3 scoreless inning.

MSU plays today at 1 p.m. against Eastern Illinois, then meets Michigan State again at 4:30 p.m.

Ole Miss 4, UCF 3: The Rebels (9-1) pulled off a third consecutive walk-off win, as John Gatlin’s two-out infield single in the 13th inning drove in the winning run.

Cheyne Bickel (2-1) earned the win with one inning of work.

The teams play again today at 1:30 p.m.
