The 27th annual Butch Lambert Invitational golf tournament tees off today at the Natchez Trace Golf Club in Saltillo.
Defending champion Bo Reed of Tupelo heads up the field in the 36-hole, stroke-play tournament. The former Tupelo High and Meridian Community College standout says the course is in “real good shape” for the event.
“To score you’ve got to strike the ball well and putt well,” he said. “Keeping the ball in the fairway is the key.”
Reed needed 39 holes to defeat Belden’s David Griffin in last year’s tournament. He won on the third hole of sudden-death.
The Mississippi Golf Association has sanctioned the Butch Lambert for the first time. Players will be able to earn points in the MGA standings.
