Calhoun Academy wins MAIS Class A state title

GRENADA – Calhoun Academy’s MAIS Class A state title in golf this year could very well be the first of several.
During Monday’s state championships at The Dogwoods Golf Course in Grenada, four freshmen golfers recorded the best scores for Calhoun Academy. Warner Jones led the Cougars with a 72 – good for third overall – while Hunter Harmon (fourth overall) and W.D. Newlin (sixth overall) had a 73 and 75, respectively.
Taylor Shoemake had an 84 to account for the Cougars’ 304 total on Monday.
Keaton Stamps led the Prentiss Christian School to a second-place finish with the lowest score on the day, a 69. Logan Parish (74, fifth overall), Matthew Speights (81) and Connor Barns (88) accounted for Prentiss Christian’s 311 total score on Monday.
