Calhoun City goes for history today

By NEMS Daily Journal

Calhoun City (15-0) can become the first high school football team in state history to win 16 games today if it defeats Lumberton (13-1) in the 2A state championship game.
The kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.
This will be the Wildcats’ eighth season to play in the title game, but they’ve won only once, in 1989.
The remainder of today’s schedule has Durant (14-0) playing Mt. Olive (10-4) at 11 a.m. in the 1A final and South Panola (14-0) meeting Meridian (14-0) in the 6A championship.
All the games are being televised live by Mississippi Public Broadcasting.
