The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to trade left-hander Marc Rzepczynski to the Cleveland Indians according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Dispatch.
The Cardinals will receive minor league shortstop SS Juan Herrera in return, the teams announced on Tuesday.
The 27-year-old Rzepczynski started the season in St. Louis but was sent to Triple A Memphis after a rough start. He posted a 3.33 ERA with 6.3 K/9 and 3.7 BB/9 in 44 innings with the Redbirds.He had been recalled and made a handful of appearances earlier this month but had been optioned to Memphis earlier Tuesday.
Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is rapidly approaching and Rzepczysnki was on the Cardinals’ 40-man roster. St. Louis has been rumored to be in the mix for Chicago White Sox pitcher Jake Peavy.
