Chancellor in Class of 2010 for state sports hall of fame

LSU women’s basketball coach Van Chancellor will be among 15 inductees honorees as the state’s community colleges recognize their fourth Sports Hall of Fame class next Tuesday at the Jackson Hilton.
Chancellor, 66, whose coaching career has included four WNBA championships at Houston, Olympic (2004) and world (2002) championship gold medals and 19 seasons at Ole Miss, was a basketball player at East Central in 1961-63.
A native of Louisville, he was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
Other honorees will include current ICC tennis coach Paul Johnson, a former Indians football player (1965-66), former Northeast football player David “Nub” Strickland (1950, ’53) and multi-sport Northwest standout Jamie Howell (1956-58).
Registration starts at 6:15 p.m., and the banquet will begin at 7 p.m.
