ABERDEEN – Aberdeen ‘s 2010 football season came to an end on Dec. 4 with a 10-8 loss against Forest in the Class 3A state championship. Channing Ward’s season was just cranking up.
Thursday after an impromptu film session with teammates, Ward discussed with me some of what’s kept his phone ringing off the hook. Ward will be talking each week with Monroe Journal Sports Editor Brandon Speck for a recruiting diary on NeMissPreps.com, the Daily Journal’s website about Everything High School Sports.
Since December, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound senior defensive tackle has chatted with LSU, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Alabama among others.
And despite narrowing his list of 20-plus football scholarship offers to LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Auburn and Alabama (with visits to Georgia and Oklahoma planned), teams are still after him.
Most of the time it’s the designated recruiter he’s talking with, but among the chats have been a 30-minute phone conversation with Auburn coach Gene Chizik.
