Channing Ward Recruiting Diary Nov. 3, 2011

Editor’s Note: Monroe Journal sports editor Brandon Speck talks with Aberdeen standout Channing Ward each week about his recruiting. Here is this week’s entry …

ABERDEEN – Welcome to the party Auburn. Despite the fact that Aberdeen five-star defensive prospect Channing Ward has continually kept Auburn in his top five list, many didn’t think the Tigers were a real option.

Now that may have changed.

Ward enjoyed his official visit over the weekend and talked with me Thursday about The Plains.

“Auburn is a good school. It’s a good family base. You’ve got good fans around there that encourage their players,” he said. “When everything is going good or everything is going bad, they’re still on their team’s back no matter what.

Ward will be among a reportedly large number of high-level recruits taking in the LSU – Alabama game of the year tomorrow in Tuscaloosa.

Ward, who said he’s still holding off on narrowing his list that includes offers from both National Title contenders, won’t be making any decisions tomorrow, but he knows some will.

“We’re going there to have a good time,” he said. “It might happen with some players. I’m not trying to make a quick decision but that could happen to somebody.”

The rest of the top five still remains and Ward has extended his own deadline of narrowing the list of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss likely until the end of the season.
