OXFORD – No. 8 Louisville escaped with a series win on Sunday, beating No. 17 Ole Miss 10-8 in the wrapup of a three-game series.
The Cardinals (14-1) piled up 16 hits and avenged their first loss of the season, suffered here on Saturday.
It was the first series loss of the season for the Rebels (12-4), who fought back after falling behind 10-3.
“We came back offensively and gave ourselves a chance to win, but Louisville was just too good early,” said Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco. “They were very aggressive at the plate today.”
The Cardinals tagged Rebels starter Matt Tracy (1-1), making his first weekend start, for 10 hits and seven runs. six earned.
Tony Zych (1-0) picked up the win after giving up six earned runs.
Matt Smith went 3 for 5, homered and drove in three runs for the Rebels, who finished with 12 hits.
Ole Miss entertains Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., then opens SEC play on Friday at Kentucky.

MSU splits pair
– Mississippi State split a pair of games with host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, losing 8-6 before winning 6-2 to end a three-game losing streak.
The Bulldogs (10-6) are home against Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday, then open SEC play at Florida on Friday.
