OLE MISS 20, UT MARTIN 4: The Rebels (10-2) pounded out 15 hits, including three home runs, and senior Zach Kirksey drove in seven runs in Tuesday’s romp.
Kirksey went 2 for 4 with a pair of home runs and three runs. Austin Anderson (3 for 5), Auston Bousfield (2 for 3) and Alex Yarbrough (3 for 4) also had multiple hits.
Matt Snyder hit a three-run home run in the first inning.
“Obviously this was a really good night for us offensively,” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco, whose team scored nine in the bottom of the eighth. “Kirksey was tremendous and continues to swing a very hot bat. There were several guys that were very good for us tonight.”
Josh Laxer (2-0) allowed one run on two hits in 21/3 innings of relief.
MISSISSIPPI STATE 7, PENN STATE 3: Wes Rea drove in three runs, including two in a three-run eighth, as the Bulldogs (11-2) won in their first-ever meeting with the Nittany Lions (2-8).
The teams play again tonight at 6:30.
Baldwyn redshirt freshman Tanner Gaines (1-0) threw 42/3 innings of shutout relief; Caleb Reed picked up his third save.
SOUTH ALABAMA 5, SOUTHERN MISS 3: The host Golden Eagles (8-5) left the bases loaded in the seventh and stranded runners in six different innings.
