31 Flavors of Football: @MacGrifferous

To help you and me get through the drudgery of August, I will present in this space a daily scoop of MSU football-ness, as inspired by a certain ice cream chain. August has 31 days, so I’ll let you work it out from there. Here is today’s flavor.

MSU tailback Nick Griffin is a funny guy. Seriously, he is. Just follow him on Twitter (@MacGrifferous). That handle of his came courtesy of cornerback Jamerson Love, who one day called Griffin “MacGrifferous,” and Griffin liked it, so voîla. In fact, he tweeted recently that most people call him by his Twitter name instead of by Nick.

Griffin is a fun interview, but he might be at his funniest on Twitter. His Twitter bio says, “Full-time superhero. Part-time MSU student athlete.” He professes his love of Spongebob and the Power Rangers, makes Seinfeld-ian observations about life, and quotes lyrics from rap songs, Phil Collins and children’s shows.

I should mention that he looks to be a very good running back and could have a great season and/or career for MSU. But today’s focus is on his personality, and the best way I can think to describe it is to post a list of greatest hits from his Twitter feed. Here are some recent gems (all of them [sic]).

• These dreads gettin long I’m finna start shakin em just watch.

• When she starts fartin around u yall are meant to be.

• Cus it’s blues cluesss blues cluesss! (you know what to do)

• I knew I was grown wen I had to start bringin my own money for tithes n offering to church.

• Skunk almost got me this morning!

• Y’all remember when Goku ran snake way on dragon ball z? Runnin the stadium is exactly like that.

• I can feel it comin in the air tonight. Oh lord.

• Michael Phelps 1/2 man 1/2 dolphin All American!

• My leather so soft but don’t think I aint hard.

• So we threw a rock at the skunk right! It raised it’s tail up n we took off!!!!

• The power rangers are real!

And on it goes. Most athletes aren’t worth following on Twitter, but Griffin is one of the few who is. Forever entertaining. By the way, if you missed them earlier, I’ve posted two videos of Griffin this week, HERE and HERE. Enjoy.
