Back on the Beat

Hey, I’m back.

My week off has come to an end, and perhaps not all of you are so excited about that. My last blog entry, announcing my time off, drew 76 “likes,” and I can’t decide if that’s a good thing. And given what transpired while I was lazing around the house, many of you might want me to stay off the job a while longer.

I’m not going into a full recap here, but last week was an awfully busy one on the beat. MSU picked up a slew of football commitments, including QB Cord Sandberg and a couple of local kids, Houston’s Chris Jones and Starkville’s Gabe Myles. That bumped MSU to 25th in the 247Sports national recruiting rankings for the 2013 class. Baseball assistant coach Lane Burroughs left for a head post at Northwestern State. Chris Stratton signed with the Giants. MSU and Loyola of Chicago are working out a contract to play in basketball, commemorating the 50th anniversary of their 1963 NCAA tournament game.

It’s June, and it seems to always be a bit busier than you might expect this time of year. So I’m getting back on the horse today and expect to have plenty to report. Keep up with me on Twitter (@bradlocke) and check back on the blog later today.

I also owe y’all another installment of the Premature Preview series, and I’ll try to put that up today. And hey, maybe the Blog Bag will come off hiatus. Now, I’m gonna go pour some coffee and get crackin’.
