Brent Brownlee‘s foot doesn’t appear to be broken, but it’s being treated as such.
The X-rays on his right foot came back Tuesday, and the junior outfielder said they were negative, which is good. However, Brownlee said Dr. Rusty Linton “is treating my foot as a stress fracture on my third metatarsal.” So Brownlee will wear a protective boot at all times, except when he practices or plays.
Coach John Cohen said Brownlee did some light work at Tuesday’s practice and should be available for this weekend’s series against No. 22 Auburn.
“I think there’s a chance he can play,” Cohen said.
• ROUTT UPDATE: Left-hander Nick Routt threw a simulated intrasquad yesterday as he continues to get back into shape. That came six days after his season debut against Lipscomb, when he started and tossed 3.1 innings, allowing one run on two hits.
Cohen said Routt looked “very good” and remains a candidate to be the starter on Sunday. “There’s a very good chance,” Cohen said.
