Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury picked up his second verbal commitment of the 2012 class tonight in the form of shooting guard Fred Thomas of Jackson’s Jim Hill High School.
Thomas, a 6-foot-6, 182-pounder, gave Stansbury the word earlier tonight and joins Montgomery (Ala.) Carver shooting guard Craig Sword in MSU’s ’12 commit class. His only other offer was from UTEP.
“They’ve shown me a lot of love, shown how much they want me, checking on me academically,” said Thomas, who averaged 20 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks, 2.3 steals and 1.6 assists per game.
I asked Thomas, who Rivals.com gives three stars, to just tell me something about himself, as a person and a player. He said, “I think I’m a great person, cool, love to hang around with my friends. (How) I explain my game, I think I’m a great shooter. I think I can handle the ball. I’m a two guard, and I’m much aggressive when I’m driving to the hole. I can rebound, block shots, steal the ball well.”
