The SEC coaches have selected their preseason All-SEC team, for what it’s worth, and four Mississippi State players made the list.
• DL Fletcher Cox, second-team defense
• CB Johnthan Banks, third-team defense
• RB Vick Ballard, third-team offense
• QB Chris Relf, third-team offense
That’s the most selections for MSU in seven years. I’d offer some analysis for you, but it’s a preseason team voted on by coaches, and such things are essentially worthless. However, I believe it does speak to the vast improvement of Relf, and the selections of Cox and Banks reflect the greatest strengths of MSU’s defense this year.
Ballard is good enough that, if he gets enough carries, he could make a case for first-team All-SEC after the season. That list is a lot more meaningful.
A question for you readers and fans: Which MSU players do you think were snubbed? The first name that came to my mind was Derek DePasquale, the Bulldogs’ deadly accurate placekicker.
