That extra scholarship Rick Stansbury‘s been holding on to has a taker.
Mississippi State has confirmed the signing of 6-foot-8 forward Kristers Zeidaks, who hails from Riga, Latvia and represented his country in the U20 European Championship last year. He averaged 13.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in the tournament.
Zeidaks, 21, is academically certified and will begin classes at MSU in the fall term. He has signed a financial aid agreement and puts State back at the 13-scholarship limit. He could face an early-season suspension due to the fact he played club ball with and against professional players, but otherwise he can play this season.
Zeidaks will be a sophomore and have three years of eligibility. He attended the University of Latvia in 2009-10, and while the school does not have an athletic program, his eligibility clock began upon enrollment.
He did not play this past year, spending time in the Canary Islands at a basketball camp. Thus, he is eligible to play this season.
