MSU players reported today, but two of the 2012 signees will not make it this fall: athlete Kivon Coman (Florence, Ala.) and receiver Artimas Samuel (Columbus, Ga.). No real surprise there, and both players will likely enroll at Hargrave Military Academy, which is where Samuel was originally headed before a scholarship spot opened up on signing day in February.
Coman and Samuel could come back to MSU and enroll in January, and in fact that’s what Bulldawgs247 is reporting they will do. They would therefore counting against the 2013 signing total. With them not coming in this fall, that cuts the number of 2012 signees on campus to 24. You’ll recall that receiver Adarrius Perkins and quarterback Nick Schuessler left over the summer.
A full updated roster won’t be released until tomorrow, but I can tell you that MSU has added another walk-on quarterback, Steven Swindle of Oak Grove. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound pro-style QB passed for 1,736 yards, 14 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season as Oak Grove went 7-4.
He’ll give State at least four QBs, with walk-on Jamil Golden (Memphis Ridegway) already having joined the Bulldogs this summer. Thanks to Schuessler’s departure, there are only two scholarship QBs on the roster, Tyler Russell and Dak Prescott.
MSU opens preseason practices tomorrow.
