Setting Up a Busy Week Ahead

A long, big week in Mississippi State sports looms ahead of us. So let me give you the rundown on what to look for.

• First, basketball. I’ll be heading out early tomorrow morning for Lexington, Ky., to cover MSU’s game at Kentucky. The Bulldogs (13-11, 5-5 SEC) are coming off that heart-wrenching loss to Auburn on Saturday, and you wonder how they’ll react to that, especially with a quick turnaround.

I’ll hear from MSU coach Rick Stansbury and Kentucky coach John Calipari later today on the SEC coaches teleconference.

On Saturday, MSU returns home to take on Ole Miss.

• In Wednesday’s paper I’ll have a preview of the 2011 MSU baseball season, and one thing my boss has asked of me is a projected starting lineup. Yeah, I know. But given John Cohen‘s penchant for shuffling things around, I figure at some point this season I’ll look at the lineup card and be able to say, “Hey, I projected that!”

The Bulldogs open the season Friday against Akron and play four games over three days.

• I’ll even have a little football for you. I spoke with new linebackers coach/co-defensive coordinator Geoff Collins on Friday and learned some interesting things. So look for a story on him later this week.

Now, I’ve got to get to it.
