Vacation’s Over, Football Looms

Hey, people, I’m back.

What did I do on my summer vacation? Glad you asked. Did a lot of swimming, saw “The Dark Knight Rises” a second time, read a Cormac McCarthy novel, drank coffee on a balcony overlooking a mountain lake, spent quality time with my wife and kids, saw a Bhi Bhiman show, and tried to ignore the fact that football is upon us.

Alas, here it comes. MSU opens preseason camp this week, with players reporting Wednesday and the first practice scheduled for Thursday. There will be a pair of practices Saturday, both of which are open to the media and public. All the other practices will be closed as the Bulldogs commence to engaging in highly sensitive government experiments (deep post routes, the “Wildcat,” stretching, etc.).

All of this is a prelude to the Sept. 1 opener against Jackson State. Speaking of JSU and soft non-conference schedules, the Bulldogs get top billing today in Jon Solomon‘s story about college football’s 12th game (CLICK HERE).

Got a couple more links for you: MSU golfer Chad Ramey won the Trustmark Invitational yesterday, beating out a handful of other Bulldogs (CLICK HERE). Former Bulldog running back Anthony Dixon has offered to take on fullback duties in additon to his tailback job in San Francisco (CLICK HERE). The backfield there has gotten crowded, and this could help Dixon stay with the 49ers.
