A couple of big Mississippi State targets played at Davis Wade Stadium today in a jamboree, and I caught up with both for a little bit. Morton’s Quay Evans, a defensive tackle, and Aberdeen’s Channing Ward, a defensive end, took the field as foes. They might be teammates someday.
Evans noted that if it wound up that way, it would make for a “tough D-line to stop.” Neither four-star player is likely to make a verbal commitment until after the season, but both have State high on their lists.
When I asked Evans about MSU defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Chris Wilson, he had something interesting to say.
“I fell in love with his way of teaching and him as a person – his character, his personality, what separates him from all the other coaches,” said Ward, who has attended atn MSU camp. “Not saying that there’s anything bad about the other coaches, but in life everybody can’t be No. 1. So in my book, coach Wilson is No. 1 as far as liking other coaches.”
