We are under way. Updates below.
They’re about to pull the tarp. Rain has slowed to a drizzle, and it’s my educated guess that there will be baseball at 5:45.
Update 4:51 p.m.
The teams are hoping for a 5:45 start, we’re told. The game will not start later than 5:45. The weather watchers say rain in the area is diminishing. The field is as prepared as it can be, and the teams would need only 10-15 minutes of warm-up time.
Still in a rain delay. It’s getting darker, and we’re seeing lightning. Actually, we’re hoping not to be struck by it, since there’s not much covered seating, and the weather will eventually blow in here.
Beyond that, nothing new to report.
Update 1:48 p.m.
It was announced a few minutes ago that the game will not begin at 2 p.m. No start time has been announced.
Settled into the press box at Sewell-Thomas. Game time is 2 p.m. Tarp is on the field, a light rain is falling. Radar shows a band of showers around Tuscaloosa that could be with us a while.
We are hunkered down for a day of start-and-stop baseball. The bad news is I’ve only got about 40 pages left in my book.
The series is tied at 1, and Ole Miss’ 4-1 loss yesterday dropped the Rebels to No. 21 in simulated RPI.
I’ll have updates and comments as the day rolls along.
