Four positions/players to keep an eye on as spring football enters Week 2 later today …
Randall Mackey appears to be the leader. Moves the team, throws an accurate ball. Turnovers have not been a problem.
Barry Brunetti was No. 2 on Saturday, but how much can you commit to him in August with his NCAA future uncertain.
It looks like Zack Stoudt is third, Nathan Stanley fourth at this point.
The offensive line
Overrated? This is supposed to be a unit that could carry the offense, making stars of the running backs and taking pressure off the quarterbacks yet the offense couldn’t enforce its will in the run game against a vastly inexperienced front four in the first scrimmage. The offensive line was called out, mildly, by head coach Houston Nutt after the scrimmage.
The wide receivers
Does junior college transfer Philader Moore make a move this week? He had a nice catch over the middle Saturday, turning a Brunetti pass into a big gain. It was clear also that offensive coordinator David Lee likes the possibilities of Moore with reverses and misdirection.
The news of Kentrell Lockett’s eligibility was big for this group. Another huge boost would be a new and improved Wayne Dorsey. Is Dorsey for real, about to play like the 5-star recruit he was on signing day?
