Jax State presser notebook | Ole Miss Sports

A few quick notes from the first game-week presser. …

– No word on an NCAA decision on Jeremiah Masoli. Ole Miss coach Houston Nutt says he expects to hear something “today, tomorrow or the next day at the latest.”

In the meantime, the first depth chart lists Nathan Stanley as the starter and Randall Mackey at No. 2. They have gotten the majority of the snaps in the last several days, and that will continue.

Nutt was told by a Jacksonville State beat writer on the conference call that Jax coach Jack Crowe expects Masoli to play. Nutt responded, “Man, I wish I could feel as good as Jack.”

He’s talking about just getting a ruling at that point, not necessarily what that ruling might be.

DE Kentrell Lockett has had some tests for a heart flutter. Lockett felt his heart racing Saturday. It’s something that has happened before with Lockett, a couple of years ago. He’s being observed as a precaution, and Nutt said he would have more information tomorrow.

– Freshman LB Mike Marry will likely miss the first game. He’s been running second team strong side LB behind Allen Walker. In his place will be third-year sophomore Brandon Sanders, a former DB.

RB Jeff Scott, LB Clarence Jackson and S Brishen Mathews are among the freshmen that Nutt expects to play in the first game. OL Jared Duke had been in the mix on the line but his progress has been slowed by a concussion.
