Ladner on Tennessee coach Pat Summitt | Ole Miss Sports

Didn’t get this posted yesterday, but here is a response from Ole Miss women’s basketball coach Renee Ladner, provided by media relations, to the news that Tennessee coach Pat Summitt has been diagnosed with dementia.

Since the news broke yesterday, many people have written about Pat Summitt the person as well as the coach.

In the handful of times I’ve interviewed her through the years, she’s always responded by looking you in the eye and often by using your name. Says a lot there.

Here’s Ladner:

“We are all praying for Pat and her family. Once again, Coach Summitt has shown great courage by sharing such personal news. I truly believe her competitive spirit will enable her to fight this battle fiercelly.

“It is such a privilege that I’ve been able to compete against Coach Summitt both as a player and a coach. She is an icon, a pioneer, someone that paved the way for most of us within the basketball community as well as women’s athletics. Because of her tireless work and dedication, we have all benefitted greatly.

Under Coach Summitt’s tutelage, her coaches will have her team well prepared for the upcoming season. We know her expectations and standard of excellence will still be extremely high!

“She and her family will be continually in our prayers.”
