Mike Bianco called it a “total team disaster,” and that summed it up pretty well.

Pithing, hitting and defense failed the Rebels, all at different times, but the most noticeable was hitting, just three on the night. Tanner Mathis had a double, and Will Allen and Will Jamison had singles.

There were hits that were robbed, but you’re going to have that in any slump. Bianco called on his players to be tougher, and that’s what they need right now.

Really good defense by Southern Miss, which robbed hits with strong infield plays and turned three double plays on the night, two of them off the bat of Matt Snyder, who went 0-for-4 and left runners on base four times.

The Rebels (15-6) played without injured second baseman Alex Yarbrough, but he wouldn’t have made a different in a 10-0 game.

Yarbrough could be back for this weekend’s series at Alabama.

Southern Miss (12-9) was led by Blake Brown (3-for-5, HR, 3B, 3 RBI) and Chase Fowler (3-for-4, RBI).
