Greetings from Hoover.
Alabama and Auburn begin the SEC tournament is a little less than two hours. Ole Miss and South Carolina follow about 30 minutes after.
Looking out from the upper level of the hotel, you can Highway 150 coming to life. Right above it there’s a digital billboard that flashes the opening-day matchups among other things.
Looks like great weather today, although there is the chance for an afternoon shower.
Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco and others don’t believe the rules put in place to speed up tournament play will have a negative impact. Basically, it’s 20 seconds between innings when nobody’s on base, and 108 seconds to take the field between innings.
The morning news shows are at Regions Park right now hyping the Alabama-Auburn game which is not yet a sellout, but officials say they expect a crowd of between 10,000 and 12,000.
Beating the Gamecocks would be a big win for Ole Miss if the Rebels can get it. The RPI is slid to 27 during the 2-7 SEC finish.
I’ll have the game blog going, assuming the wireless connection is working. TV for the first two games is scheduled for SportSouth if that’s available in your area. If not, all games not broadcast on ESPNU should be streamed live on ESPN3.com.
