UMAA Foundation director Danny White told the Daily Mississippian this week that the Forward Together capital campaign has surpassed $62 million as it approaches the half-way mark of the $150 million goal.
Monday begins an important week in the campaign, the Rebel Road Trip, a week-long swing through the state and surrounding area that ends in Oxford on April 28.
The Tupelo stop is Wednesday, an evening meeting at the BancorpSouth Conference Center.
On Tuesday, Bjork’s first day, he was clearly hard at work at one of his top priorities – meeting people.
The Rebel Road Trip is designed to get Bjork and first-year football coach Hugh Freeze in front of as many Ole Miss people as possible around the state.
The capital campaign will no doubt be a topic of conversation at each stop. If those conversations go well, maybe the figures continue to rise.
Presently, the new basketball arena is scheduled to be open for the 2015-2016 season.
The current figures are just more than $30 million away from the Phase 1 goal of $100 million, which includes the new arena.
White says he’s hopeful work can begin soon.
“When we get the funds committed for the arena, we will probably go ahead and start,” he told The Mississippian. “We are hoping to be at the point to do that by the middle of this summer — to hire the architects and start the design and development.”
