Wrapping up Day 1 | Ole Miss Sports

Getting ready for Day 2 here.

No real surprises from the first day, no explosive questions or comments, nothing like the Tim Tebow sex life thing.

The Missouri contingent seemed more like the new school defending its previous association. Both of the new schools got the SEC transitional questions, but it was almost like Missouri coach Gary Pinkel had reached the breaking point when he talked about a vacation home in Florida and getting so many questions about the SEC. His response was, “We haven’t been playing high school teams.”

His wide receiver, T.J. Moe, a senior and Missouri native had a good take on it as well. “That was a good league, and we were pretty good in that league.”

Indeed, the Big 12 has been a good league with Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and in recent seasons Texas Tech at a higher level.

With the rise of Baylor and Kansas State you could argue that the Big 12’s depth last year was better than the SEC’s depth.

The big news for Ole Miss yesterday was that Aberdeen’s Channing Ward has met academic requirements to play his freshman season. Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze has talked about Ward as a guy who can make a significant contribution in his first season, and the Rebels certainly need to find a defensive playmaker coming off the edge.
