It’s been a long travel day, almost 12 hours to be exact. We dropped off Jeff Roberson in Oxford about an hour ago.
It’s great to be back home.
Jeff and I alternated driving and working, part of which included a short phone interview with Alex Yarbrough after he was selected in the fourth round by the Angels.
Here’s what Yarbrough had to say:
“It’s really exciting. I wasn’t too concerned about who I was going to get picked by. I was just really hoping to be picked by somebody. The Angels are a great organization from everything I’m hearing. They’ve got a really talented team at the big league level right now. Obviously it would be quite a while until I get up there. I couldn’t be more excited, and we’ll see what’s going to happen.
“I had gotten a significant amount of interest from a few teams, some more than others. The Angels were a team whose scout had contacted me. They had seen me play at the SEC Tournament and they liked the way I played. It was great to get that call from the Angels.
“I haven’t talked to them about a single thing except for when they called me. I’m just excited about it right now. We’re going to catch up with (the Angels) tomorrow. We’ll probably be in talks with them for the next couple of days. We’ll just take it day by day and see what happens.”
Since Yarbrough was drafted Matt Snyder was taken by the Yankees in the 10th round, Dylan Chavez by the Red Sox in the 14th round.
