Corinth wins 3A golf title

MADISON – Corinth, led by senior medalist P.J. Platt, won its second consecutive MHSAA Class 3A golf state championship Thursday at Reunion Golf Club.
The Warriors won by 30 strokes over second-place Forest – 642 to 672 – in the two-day, 36-hole event.
“They all talked last year about coming back and winning state again,” Corinth coach Keith Greene said. “I told them don’t talk about, go out there and do it.”
Platt recorded a 77-79 – 156 score to take medalist honors. Sumrall’s Bryce Monroe was second with a 75-82 – 157 while Corinth’s Alex Tull was third with an 84-76 – 160 total.
Also for Corinth, Blake Farris recorded a 77-88 – 165, Collins Burns 79-87 – 166 and John Mathis 89-83 – 172.
Belmont was Northeast Mississippi’s other entry in the tournament. The Cardinals were led by Ethan Collier with an 87-88 – 175. He was followed by Dustin Poole, 87-93 – 180; Alex Sparks, 96-103 – 199; Tyler Massey, 102-104 – 206 and Colten McKinney, 119-109 – 228.
South Pontotoc’s Peyton Belk competed for medalist and finished with a 91-91 – 182.
