Cotton States summer baseball opens play tonight in New Albany

NEW ALBANY – The second season of the wooden-bat BNA Bank Cotton States Baseball League for college-age players gets under
way tonight at the New Albany Sportsplex.
First pitch between the North Delta Dealers and the Tallahatchie Rascals is set for 6:30 p.m. at Legion Field.
The Rascals, coached by Chris Basil, were the champions of the league’s inaugural regular season.
The Dealers, coached by Doug Robbins, won the league championship tournament to close out the season.
The three other league teams – the Golden Triangle Jets, Tupelo Thunder and the expansion Tippah County Tribe – will open play later in the week.
Rosters for all five teams are studded with players with area and state connections.
The Dealers boast 11 players from Northwest Mississippi Community College, while the Rascals roster includes six players from Northeast and Ole Miss recruit Jimel Judon of Myrtle.
The CSBL regular season runs through July 26.
