Cristil leads four-man class of MSU honorees

STARKVILLE – Longtime play by-play announcer Jack Cristil highlights the first class of former football figures to be “permanently recognized” by Mississippi State, the school announced Saturday.
Cristil, who retired earlier this year after 58 years behind the microphone, is joined by three
former players: linebacker Johnie Cooks (1977-81), linebacker D.D. Lewis (1965-67) and quarterback Jackie Parker (1952-53), whose senior season was Cristil’s first calling MSU games.
Cristil called 636 football games and was also the basketball play-by-play man for 54 seasons.
Parker holds several MSU offensive records and played in the Canadian Football League. Cooks and Lewis both achieved all-SEC and all-American status, and both enjoyed lengthy NFL careers.
