The status of Ole Miss signee D.J. Law remains unclear, though the 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete from Haines City, Fla., could be removed from the signing class.

Both Ole Miss and Utah claimed Law on Wednesday.

Ole Miss announced Law as a member of its class at 8:23 a.m. CT, Utah at 3:36 p.m.

Law, who has academic ground to cover before meeting initial eligibility requirements, also signed with East Mississippi Community College.

An Ole Miss spokesman said the school’s compliance staff was looking into the matter.

Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze had this to say about Law at his Wednesday press conference.

“He’s a kid from very humble backgrounds. He’s had several hardships in his life. I’m totally convinced that this kind wants to make something of himself. He’s got some academic challenges also because of the issues he faced as a ninth-grader. Hopefully he can overcome those and get with us this fall. We’re thrilled.”

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham told The Salt Lake Tribune the his school’s compliance office has Law’s letter of intent.
