David Wheeler on High School Sports January 3, 2011

By David Wheeler/NEMS Daily Journal

Gosh, it has been a year since I have done this 🙂

Seriously, this is the time on the calendar when high school basketball is at its best in Northeast Mississippi. And, as far as the Daily Journal, this has always been my favorite time of year coverage-wise.

(Inserting a thought here – baseball practice begins Feb. 1, classic games Feb. 24. Time will fly.)

As more schools take advantage of holiday scheduling, there certainly were some nice matchups last week that got us warmed up for the remaining five weeks of the regular season.

Several boys contests caught my eye last week, including Booneville beating Bruce , Aberdeen beating Booneville , and Baldwyn beating Mooreville . On the girls side, I thought New Site traveling to the south part of the state and going 2-1 was pretty stout.

But let us move on to the contests that are yet to be played, and these are just a few that catch my eye.
