A couple of basketball coaches with Northeast Mississippi ties will lead their teams into a key Sun Belt Conference battle today in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
Tupelo native Bob Marlin leads Louisiana-Lafayette (8-8, 2-0) into a 5:30 p.m. game against Middle Tennessee State (14-2, 3-0), coached by Kermit Davis Jr. Davis is the son of a former Mississippi State head coach and played for the Bulldogs.
The host Blue Raiders have won six games in a row, including a 68-56 win over Ole Miss in Southaven on Dec. 21. They are 6-1 at home in this series.
Marlin led his Ragin’ Cajuns to a 72-70 win at Western Kentucky on Thursday, the team’s 12th consecutive Sun Belt victory.
After the game, it was discovered that ULL played its final, game-winning possession with six players on the court. The referees caught the mistake after the final buzzer – too late to assess a technical foul.
