Defending state champs wrap up fall drills at ICC

FULTON – Itawamba Community College’s defending state champion baseball program recently wrapped up its fall workouts in preparation for the 2010 season.
“We saw what we needed to see,” said ICC head coach Rick Collier, the only baseball coach in the history of the College to have won a pair of MACJC state titles. “We’ve got some arms and that is great to see. We were hoping to see some of the new bats in our lineup heat up a little better in the fall, but we can take care of that.”
ICC’s eeturning All-American, outfielder Ladarrius Cole of Nettleton, had a “huge fall” Collier said, and will most likely keep his leadoff spot in the lineup. Hatley’s Jake Sloan, the left-handed hitting sophomore third baseman, is penciled in to hit third.
ICC will start preseason workouts on Jan. 10, but Collier said he already has his starting pitchers in mind for the first doubleheader of 2010: returnees Joseph Koon of Tupelo and Will Irvin of Bolivar, Tenn.
