ALBANY, Ga. – Delta State is headed to the NCAA DIvision II football semifinals for the third time in school history after Saturday’s 28-7 win over Albany State.
The Statesmen (10-3) will face Shepherd University (11-2) next Saturday at a time and site to be determined. The winner advances to the Dec. 18 championship game at Florence, Ala.
Against previously unbeaten Albany State (11-1), DSU fell behind 7-0 early in the game before rallying against the top-ranked scoring defense in D-II. The game was tied at 7 at halftime.
“I’m so proud of the effort our guys gave today to make the adjustments needed to come away with the win,” said Statesmen coach Ron Roberts.
DSU’s Micah Davis passed for 192 yards and two TDs and Trevar Deed rushed for 56 yards and scored twice.
The Statesmen are 1-1 in previous semifinal visits, beating North Dakota State in its 2000 national championship run and losing to eventual champ Grand Valley State in 2006.
