WESSON – Marty Cooper was out on the recruiting trail Wednesday morning thinking his ICC men’s basketball team’s season was over.
That all changed in the afternoon when the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) disqualified Mississippi Delta from postseason play for using an ineligible player – Glenn Ford –- during the second half of the season.
Cooper’s Indians (13-11), who were eliminated from the state tournament Tuesday by South Division top seed Gulf Coast, 56-55, will replace Delta in next week’s NJCAA Region 23 tournament at Mississippi College in Clinton.
“I’m happy for my kids,” Cooper said in a telephone interview moments after hearing the news. “I’ve never experienced such an unusual season. We had the two snow (postponements) and lost some close games.
