STARKVILLE – Mississippi State plays its first home night game of the season Wednesday as the Bulldogs (10-6) play host to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (4-13). First pitch at Dudy Noble Field is 6:30 p.m.

As part of MSU’s “Miltary Appreciate Day” promotion on Wednesdays this season, military service members can pick up a free game ticket upon presentation of a military identification card at the stadium ticket office. General admission tickets are $5 per person and available at the stadium ticket office two hours prior to game time.

Live audio and video streaming of Wednesday’s game will be available on the internet (www.MStateAthletics.com/M2Mlive) to subscribers of “Maroon to the Max”, the premium extension of the MSU athletics web site.

The Bulldogs returned Tuesday afternoon from Corpus Christi, Texas, and their first road trip of the campaign. State posted a 1-3 worksheet in the three-day Whataburger College Classic, bowing to No. 16 Oklahoma 16-5 and No.10 UCLA 5-2 before splitting a twinbill with tourney-host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 6-8 and 4-2.

Senior first baseman Connor Powers launched a massive game-tying home run in the eighth inning and Cody Freeman singled in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning to give the Bulldogs the win. It was an SEC-leading eighth home run of the year for Powers (.391), who also leads the Southeastern Conference with 32 RBI through 16 games.

Mississippi State is expected to use a split pitching staff against MVSU Wednesday.

The Delta Devils struggled to a 2-13 start this season before claiming both games (15-2, 12-2) of a rain-abbreviated SWAC series last weekend at Alabama A&M. Shortstop Jerry Hildreth (.333) leads the club at the plate and has registered 14 stolen bases in 15 attempts.

The Bulldogs open their 76th season of SEC baseball competition in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend with a three-game series against the sixth-ranked Florida Gators (12-3). All three games of the MSU-UF series will be broadcast on the 14-station MSU Baseball Radio Network. The broadcast of Sunday’s series finale will not be available on French Camp’s WFCA-FM, which will be carrying the broadcast of the Lady Bulldogs’ first-round matchup with Middle Tennessee State in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Golden Triangle area fans will be able to listen to the call of Sunday’s Bulldogs-Gators game on baseball network affiliate WKBB-FM (100.9) in West Point, Miss.
