STARKVILLE — Micah Williams scored 18 points and hit a game-winning layup to lead East Tennessee State to a 63-62 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night.
ETSU (4-4) shot 50 percent from the field (24 of 48) and outrebounded the Bulldogs 35-22.
Mississippi State (4-2) led 38-25 at the half but struggled for offense late.
Justin Tubbs missed a potential game-tying free throw for the Buccaneers with 26.6 seconds remaining, but ETSU snagged the rebound and set Williams up for a layup in the lane.
The Bulldogs’ Kodi Augustus missed a contested layup in the final seconds to seal the Buccaneer win.
Mike Smith led the Bucs with 20 points and was 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
Ravern Johnson had a game-high 23 points to pace the Bulldogs and Augustus added 10 points.
