Defensive tackle Quay Evans has left Mississippi State’s football program, signing with the University of West Georgia on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 310-pounder from Morton was one of the Bulldogs’ top signees in the 2012 class, rated as a five-star prospect. Some recruiting services had Evans as its top Mississippi recruit and was a first-team all-state selection, making 72 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries as a senior for the Panthers.

Evans appeared in 15 games during his two seasons in Starkville, recording 10 tackles, one tackle for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

Evans saw action in just five games for MSU in 2013, making three stops including one for loss. He did not appear in the final seven games. Evans did not make the trip to Houston for the season opener against Oklahoma State either.

Evans was arrested on campus on Oct. 30 for suspicion of driving without a license and disregarding a traffic control device.
